Vogue Award

In 1992 I won the Vogue Cecil Beaton Photography Award.

This was the annual Vogue photographic competition.

The panel of judges consisted of Jasper Conran, David Hiscock and the Vogue editor at the time, John Muir.

The prize was £1000, a two page photographic fashion story shoot commission with Vogue and an award ceremony.

Unfortunately at that time John Muir became ill and had to leave Vogue.

Vogue under a change of management decided to renege on their promise of the prize for the competition and I had to threaten legal action to get the prize money.

I hasten to add I had the two page photographic fashion story shoot commission and the award ceremony withdrawn from me but I did eventually receive the prize money after nearly a year.

I still think Vogue's behavior was disgusting and I should have been given the two page photographic fashion story shoot commission and the award ceremony.

Vogue, I'm still waiting for you to fulfill your promise!

The award was more of a poison chalice than a good experience for me and I subsequently changed direction from being solely a photographer into a Television Graphic Designer, working for VTR, Channel One, ITV and CNBC Europe.
